BetterPic is one of the more visible AI headshot services in the European market. The product is solid: 4K resolution output, a wide library of outfits and backgrounds, and a turnaround that competes with the fastest providers. So why might a UK professional pick Profyle over it?
The honest answer is: for some people, you wouldn't. For others — particularly those whose employer or regulator cares about UK data residency, or who simply don't want to deal with USD pricing — Profyle is the cleaner option. This page walks through where each service is strongest, with no marketing-flavoured language.
Both services do the same core thing: you upload a set of selfies, the AI is fine-tuned to your face, you get back a gallery of headshots in different outfits and backgrounds. The output quality from both is high enough for LinkedIn, company team pages, CVs, and most professional contexts.
The differences are in pricing, where the data lives, how the styles are tuned, and the warranty you get if the first attempt isn't right.

BetterPic's marketing emphasises 4K output and a deep wardrobe — and they've delivered on both. If you want the widest possible range of outfits and backgrounds in a single session, BetterPic's library is bigger than Profyle's.
4K resolution matters in narrow circumstances. If your photo will be printed at A4 or larger — say, a foyer banner, a press kit cover, or a printed company brochure — 4K is comfortable territory. For LinkedIn, websites, and email signatures, it's not a meaningful difference; the platforms downscale anyway.
If you need a deep wardrobe library and 4K print resolution, BetterPic does both. We don't. We've focused on five to eight backgrounds tuned tightly to UK professional contexts rather than thirty generic ones.
BetterPic prices in USD. UK card statements convert at the bank's rate plus a foreign-transaction margin (typically 2.75–2.99% on UK debit cards, sometimes higher on credit cards). A $55 charge becomes roughly £45–46 once that margin is applied. Profyle prices in GBP. £39 is £39 on your statement.
If you're an NHS employee, a solicitor at a firm with strict data-handling rules, an accountant whose CPD covers GDPR, or simply someone who would rather their selfies be handled under UK law, the difference between a UK ICO-registered controller and a non-UK provider is real. UK GDPR requires lawful basis for processing biometric data; ICO C1906880 means there's a UK regulator with a published file on us. For BetterPic, your data flow involves at least one cross-border transfer.
BetterPic's outfit library is generic-international. The styles look good — but a "business casual" set is a "business casual" set whether you're in Berlin, London, or Boston. Profyle's Estate Agent style pack is tuned to what a Rightmove headshot looks like. Our NHS pack handles the lanyard-and-clinical-setting expectations. The difference matters most when your photo lands in a context with a strong existing visual convention.
If the first pass doesn't look right, Professional and Premium tiers include a free redo. If the redo also misses, you get a full refund. BetterPic refunds if you don't get usable output, but the bar for "usable" is theirs.
This is worth pulling apart because BetterPic's marketing leans on it. Here's what each platform actually serves at common output sizes:
For 95% of professional uses the resolution difference is academic. For the remaining 5%, it's worth paying for.
BetterPic is a competent product run by a competent team. We're not in a position to tell you they don't deliver — they do. The two genuine reasons a UK professional ends up choosing us over them are: pricing without FX, and confidence about where their selfies live. If neither of those bothers you, BetterPic is fine.
Where we'd push back gently: the wardrobe-size argument is real but is also slightly oversold across this category. Most customers settle on three or four favourites from any decent library and ignore the rest. If you'd rather have a curated set tuned to UK professional contexts than a sprawling generic library, we built Profyle that way deliberately.
